As the son of legendary singer/songwriter Steve Earle, high expectations are the name of the game; but he's shown that he is up to the task, crafting stark portraits with elements of acoustic blues and folk. Thirty Tigers artist Tommy Womack has been honored with a "Best of Nashville" Award for "Alpha Male" from his album There I Said It! released in February. The article states (and we agree), "If Brad Paisley recorded this, he'd have wage-slave dads in pickups all across America staring at their radios in silent amazement." We'd rather hear Tommy sing it, even so. Congratulations to our favorite rock star.

Song Of America is an 50-song, 3-disc album that traces the history of the United States through its folk and popular musical traditions. The idea was the brainchild of former Attorney General Janet Reno, whose premise was that music can be used as a great tool for history teachers to use in conveying the ideals and mores of the American people. She and producer Ed Pettersen (Reno's nephew) approached Thirty Tigers President David Macias (who won a Grammy in 2005 for co-producing "Beautiful Dreamer: The Songs Of Stephen Foster") about collaborating on this project. The compilation will be available September 19, 2007. Artists participating in the project include John Mellencamp, The Black Crowes, Devendra Banhart, Andrew Bird, Danielson, Bettye LaVette, Janis Ian, Martha Wainwright, Blind Boys of Alabama, Elizabeth Cook, Kim Richey and many others.
The Avett Brothers also landed #134 on the Billboard Top 200 for their May 15th release. "Thirty Tigers has offered the Avett Brothers and me the best of both worlds by giving us a major label infrastructure while allowing us to keep our indie-roots intact. Their "BIG TEAM, little me" philosophy has instilled the confidence needed to compete in an industry that can be very intimidating for small independent labels." - Dolphus Ramseur of Ramseur Records.

The music of Bombadil, a band of North Carolinians who met by chance in Bolivia, draws on a unique melange of influences to create an infectious, unclassifiable sound. The songs on their first full-length album range from straightforward rock to Bolivian waltzes, from heartbreaking piano-driven laments to swashbuckling, raucous marches. Still, the core of Bombadil is their anthemic, concrete songwriting. [artist site]

Acclaimed singer/songwriter James McMurtry returns with Just Us Kids, his ninth album and follow up to 2005's Americana Album of the Year winner, Childish Things. With songs like "Cheney's Toy" and "God Bless America," McMurtry picks up where he left off with his controversial anthem "We Can't Make It Here." [artist site]

Known for their high-octane performances, original songs and stunning harmonies, The Dixie Bee-Liners return with their latest release Ripe, produced by Grammy winner Bil Vorndick and featuring guest appearances by Andy Falco (Infamous Stringdusters), Mark Fain and Andy Leftwich (Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder), ex-Grascal David Talbot, and Rascal Flatt's dobro player Travis Toy. After years of Texas chart hits and sold-out shows, Aaron Watson returns with his strongest offering yet, Angels and Outlaws, and his sights firmly set on the national stage. [artist site]

There's no jug-playing in the South Austin Jug Band, and any other bluegrass connotation should be spilled down the drain along with other moonshine-conceived notions. Strange Invitation is chock-full of melodic songs and South Austin Jug Band has solidified itself as a tour-de-force in the world of acoustic music. [artist site]

With his signature witty lyrics, brilliant irony and colorful true life stories, Paul Thorn returns singing about good times, bad times, and everything in between, artfully weaving in a slightly loopy Southern sense of the unexpected that draws you in and never lets go. [artist site]

This is the first time Steve Poltz has recorded something with a full band and a clear vision of his future. It's the beginning of a new chapter for the American-Canadian artist whose time has come. [artist site]

Few have ever managed to popularize an art form by elevating it, and Harry T. Burleigh is one of those few who did so by bringing the music of black America to the classical concert stage. Resplendent soprano Karen Parks brings Burleigh's music to life through this collection, which debuted at #2 on the Billboard Classical Chart. [artist site]

On his latest effort Bucket, Mando's songs are still populated with losers and dreamers, but he has left the Texas imagery behind. Potent songwriters and Nashville musicians perfectly punctuate his haunting tenor and unexpected phrases. [artist site]

Owen's gritty realism harkens back to his heroes like Steve Earl and Joe Ely. Two Thousand Miles is a dusty, backroads blend of heartache and hope... [artist site]

From the artist that Aretha Franklin calls "brilliant and precious" and Pharrell Williams claims is "so dope," comes a live album (recorded at Birdland) of American Standards. Bey's performances are notoriously "below the radar," but this marks the existence of a recording that captures the energy and magic previously heard by very few. [artist site]

Genius + Love has teamed with Dr. Wendi Lowery Ed.D., a leading learning theorist from Vanderbilt University, to produce the first record to be marketed to kids and adults equally. Jazz and Swing for Kids presents ten classical sets of children's lyrics paired with arrangements inspired by legends like Count Basie, Scott Joplin, Little Richard and Lead Belly. [artist site]

A Landmark, 50-SONG, 3-CD set tracing the history of our country through new versions of culturally significant songs interpreted by contemporary artists. Essentially a folk record, EP showcases Kimbrough's slide, flattop guitar and banjo work, and most of all, his warm voice and literate songwriting. Recorded mostly at home, with floorboards creaking, birds singing, cars passing, and children sneaking by, EP is Will Kimbrough's most intimate work yet. [artist site]

Brandon Rhyder's new release Live features the single "Home Again" (co-written by Jon Randall- "Whiskey Lullaby"), five previously unreleased tracks, three of his biggest radio hits, two bonus tracks produced by hit singer/songwriter turned producer Radney Foster, and the best songs from two major shows recorded this past winter. In 2004, Peters went through what she describes as a "midlife epiphany." It was the realization that she needed to take control of her own life, and it would turn her world upside-down and end her 23 year marriage before culminating in Burnt Toast & Offerings, a deeply personal coming-to-terms record. [artist site]

Feel A Hunk O' Burnin' Love with The Bluegrass Elvises, Volume One Shawn Camp & Billy Burnette will be available August 16, 2007 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the death of Elvis Presley. [artist site]

Rising country star Jeremy McComb has released his first single via Thirty Tigers! Expect to hear "Wagon Wheel" on a country radio station near you... [artist site]

Emotionalism is a weakness. It is a presentation of a heart-lucid reality to those who do not seek it. It can be mocked. It can be ignored. This record and the group that executed it take part in a voice, singing to the guarded, the scared, the damaged, the emotionless. They will choose whether or not to listen. [artist site]

In contemporary country music, it's a rare performer who will dare to take on the industry on her own hogs-and-kisses terms. But for the artist whom Nanci Griffith has called "this generation's Loretta Lynn," it takes a certain tenacity to meld smart attitude with classic tradition, the credibility of a life lived with genuine hillbilly passion, and the integrity to write an acclaimed cache of uncommonly cool songs. This is a fiercely independent ride where shuffles, ballads, and even the occasional juice harp can soar alongside an exquisite cover of The Velvet Underground's "Sunday Morning." Balls is, quite simply, Elizabeth Cook's unabashed breakthrough. [artist site]

Two years, many gigs, and one big, busted love affair later, Amy LaVere went into the studio with Jim Dickinson to craft her dark and sexy second album, Anchors and Anvils. Jim Dickinson captured Amy and her band at his Zebra Ranch recording barn/'art project' in rural Mississippi. "As a producer, you take the artist out to the edge of the cliff, where they have to learn to trust you," Dickinson explains. "And of course, you push 'em off. A lot of them fall. But Amy has the wings to fly. In fact, I think it's one of the best records I've ever made." [artist site]

Outta Sight Records is pleased to announce their first release with The Dynamites featuring Charles Walker on vocals. Kaboom! is a furious and unrelenting barrage of stripped-down, rhythmic R&B, funk, and swinging soul pouring out of Nashville's new 9-piece staple live outfit [artist site]
